High-electrical-resistivity thermally-conductive phase change materials prepared by adding nanographitic fillers into paraffin

Pristine and modified exfoliated graphite nanoplatelets (xGnPs and M-xGnPs, respectively) were dispersed into a paraffin wax phase change material (PCM) in an effort to raise the thermal conductivity of the PCM. The addition of pure xGnPs would decrease the electrical resistivity of the composite PCM, and thus its potential for use in electrical devices would be limited due to safety concerns. To eliminate this issue, the M-xGnPs were prepared. Samples ...

Thermal transport, thermomechanical, and dielectric properties of chalcogenide Se98–xAg2Inx (x = 0, 2, 4, 6) system

The influence of In content in the Se98-xAg2Inx (x = 0, 2, 4, 6) system of chalcogenide glasses on the physical properties of the glasses were investigated by the authors. The maximum thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity value was observed for the sample containing 2 at. % In. The microhardness was found to initially decrease upon doping of In for Se; however, it began to slowly increase after a certain In content had been attained. ...

Thermal conduction through diamond – silicon heterostructures

The thermal conductivity and thermal boundary resistance between ultrananocrystalline diamond (UNCD) and microcrystalline diamond (MCD) films on silicon wafers were evaluated. It was found that the MCD/Si composite wafers were more thermally conductive than the UNCD/Si wafers over the temperature range tested. It was also found that in both types of composite wafer, the thermal conductivity increased with temperature in contrast to the decrease that is observed in ...

Measurement of Thermal Transport Properties in Metal Doped Polypyrrole

Metal doping of a polypyrrole matrix was carried out. Nickel and Cobalt were the two metals that were used in this study, and three samples were prepared, one containing 100% Co, one containing 50% Co and 50% Ni, and finally, one containing 100% Ni. The effective thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity were evaluated, and it was determined that metal doping of the polymer matrix resulted in increases in both the thermal conductivity, and the ...

Influences of template concentration and epoxy functionality on porous epoxy systems: Characteristics of thermal stability, optical, dielectric, and mechanical properties

Porous epoxy thermosets were prepared using poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) as a template. The two epoxies that were used to make the porous thermosets were diglycidylether bisphenol-A (DGEBA), and triphenylolmethane triglycidyl ether (TGTPM). Trimethylolpropane tris(poly(propylene glycol)), amine terminated)ether (T-403) was used as a hardener in producing the thermosets. The porous thermosets were then characterized to determine their structural, thermal, optical, dielectric, and mechanical properties, and the results ...
