# Thermal Conductivity and Thermal Resistance Calculator

The Thermal Conductivity and Thermal Resistance Calculator is a quick tool to estimate the thermal conductivity of a material when its thickness and thermal resistance is known (usually from a heat flow meter measurement). The calculator can also be used to give a quick estimate of its thermal resistance when its thickness and thermal conductivity is known.

The thermal resistance of a material is a parameter that indicates how well a material would resist conductive heat flow. The higher the thermal resistance of the material, the better it resists heat flow. The thermal resistance of a material can be directly measured in a heat flow meter. And if the thickness of the material is known, the thermal conductivity of the material can be calculated. Similarly, if you know the thermal conductivity of the material, you can estimate its thermal resistance even before measuring it with a heat flow meter.

### Thermal Resistance to Thermal Conductivity:

$k = \frac{L}{R}$

where:
k = Thermal Conductivity (W/m•K)
$$L$$ = Thickness (m)
$$R$$ = Thermal Resistance (m2K/W)

### Thermal Conductivity to Thermal Resistance:

$R = \frac{L}{k}$

where:
k = Thermal Conductivity (W/m•K)
$$L$$ = Thickness (m)
$$R$$ = Thermal Resistance (m2K/W)
