Effective thermal conductivity of three-phase styrene butadiene composites

The thermal conductivity and diffusivity of a series of three-phase styrene butadiene composites were investigated using the transient plane source (TPS) technique. Both of the series contained a variable amount of natural rubber, as well as variable amounts of silica and clay. The thermal properties decreased sharply at 10 phr filling, but increased subsequently after that. It was determined that silica resulted in better (higher) thermal properties as compared to clay....

Experimental and numerical study of the effective thermal conductivity of nano composites with thermal boundary resistance

Thermal interface resistance results from small gaps and surface geometry mismatches between two materials that make up a composite. Thermal interface resistance is present in most any material that is comprised of two or more components. In the field of thermal interface materials, the majority of novel materials are composites, and thus are subject to thermal interface resistance and thermal boundary resistance (thermal discontinuity at a perfectly bonded interface of ...

Studies on Preparation and Property Researches of EP/SiC Thermal Conductivity Composites

Epoxy resin/silicon carbide (Ep/SiC) composites were prepared by the casting method and subsequently characterized for their mechanical and thermal properties. It was determined that an increasing mass fraction of SiC in the epoxy resin resulted in increasing thermal conductivity of the composites. Using 50 wt.% SiC resulted in a thermal conductivity of 0.7152 W/mK, which is three times that of pure epoxy resin. Mechanical properties peaked with 10 wt.% SiC. ...

Synergistic Effects of Carbon Fillers in Thermally Conductive Liquid Crystal Polymer Based Resins

Three different carbons (carbon black, synthetic graphite particles and carbon fiber) were added to Vectra A950RX Liquid Crystal Polymer in order to synthesize different composites for use in fuel cells. The carbon fillers were used individually and also in combination with other carbon fillers. A TPS was used to measure the thermal conductivities of the synthesized composites. It was found that the use of synthetic graphite particles as the ...

Thermal conductivity epoxy resin composites filled with boron nitride

The point of this research paper was to modify the thermal and mechanical properties of epoxy resin (EP) via the addition of boron nitride (BN) by a silane coupling agent (KH550). The use of 60 wt.% BN resulted in a thermal conductivity that was 5 times higher than the conductivity of the unmodified epoxy resin....
