Thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of palm fiber reinforced binary phenolformaldehyde composites

Samples of binary reinforced composites were created by mixing varying fractions of palm fiber (20, 30, 40, and 50 weight %) in a phenoformaldehyde (PF) matrix. The thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity were measured using Transient Plane Source equipment. The team discovered that the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of the composites decreased as the amount of palm fiber increased....

Thermal properties of green alumina porcelain

The thermal properties, as well as bulk density, and mass loss of alumina porcelain were determined as a function of firing temperature. It was found that after sintering at 1320 ºC, the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity increased by ~700% and ~400%, respectively....

Thermophysical Properties of Reconsolidating Crushed Salt

The thermophysical properties of crushed salt were measured as it reconsolidated. The main focus of the work was to determine the thermal conductivity of the salt at temperatures ranging from -75 to 300ºC. It was determined that the thermal conductivity of reconsolidated crushed salt decreased with increasing porosity, but increased as the salt consolidated. At each porosity that was measured, the thermal conductivity was found to decrease with increasing temperature. ...

Effect of carbon nanotube interfacial geometry on thermal transport in solid–liquid phase change materials

The thermal conductivities of four composite paraffin phase change materials (PCMs) containing embedded multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with varying dimensions were determined. The goals of this study were to investigate the interfacial thermal resistance between two MWCNTs, and to investigate the ballistic and diffusive components of the thermal resistance at the interface. It was found that the thermal conductivity of the composite PCMs increased with the diameter of the MWCNT ...

Effects of a titanate coupling agent on the mechanical and thermo-physical properties of talc-reinforced polyethylene compounds

The effect of a titanate coupling agent on the thermal conductivity of talc filled high density polyethylene. Moisture content and mechanical properties were studied in addition to thermal conductivity. Samples with and without the isopropyl tri(dioctyl)phosphate titanate were investigated. Thermal conductivity did not change with the addition of the coupling agent, however the stiffness and tensile strength of the samples did increase....
