Characterizations of CaO-B2O2-SiO2 glass-ceramics: Thermal and electrical properties

Five different glasses were created in the present study with varying compositional ratios in a CaO-B2O2-SiO2 (CBS) System and the thermal and dielectric properties of these glasses were studied. A glass was found that had high thermal conductivity and promising dielectric properties, with a low sintering temperature that allows for the addition of fillers to adjust thermal and dielectric properties further....

Processing of microcellular cordierite ceramics from a preceramic polymer

Researchers have developed an innovative processing route for producing microcellular cordierite ceramics within a three-step method. A) constructing ceramic-filled foams by heating a mixture of polysiloxane, expandable microspheres, talc, and alumina B) cross-linking the foamed body, and C) with the use of sintering, convert the body into microcellular cordierite ceramics....

Transient Thermal Conductivity Measurements -Comparison of Destructive and Non-destructive Techniques

This paper discusses thermal conductivity measurements on homogenous and non-homogenous materials, using three transient methods: Laser Flash Method (LFM), Modified Hot Wire (MHW), and the Transient Plane Source (TPS). This article also compares the non-destructive nature of the MHW, and the TPS methods, to the destructive nature of the LFM. Research conducted on homogenous materials produced comparable results using all three transient methods. However, when testing non-homogenous materials, such as ...

Thermal conductive performance of organosoluble polyimide/BN and polyimide/(BN+ ALN) composite films fabricated by a solution-cast method

The addition of ceramics, Boron Nitride and Boron-Aluminum Nitride, to an organosoluble polyimide (PI) film was investigated in this research. Test were performed to determine the effect of the addition of ceramics, on the thermal performance of the film, at room temperature. After appropriate treatments, the BN-PI elicited a thermal conductivity of 2.3 W/mK, as compared to the neat polyimide, with a thermal conductivity of 0.13 W/mK. In contrast, due ...

Specific Heat Measurements with the Thermal Constants Analyser

This work introduces a direct method for measuring the specific heat of solids, using the Transient Plane Source Technique (TPS). To begin, a sample is placed into a thermally conductive holder, surrounded by a thermally insulating material. A thermally conductive sample holder is used, to limit the time it takes to achieve a temperature equilibrium between the holder and the sensor. Insulating the sample holder is to minimize heat loss ...
