Effect of hexagonal boron nitride on high-performance polyether ether ketone composites

Polyether Ether Ketone (PEEK)/hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) nanocomposites were formed by a planetary ball milling process and hot compression molding in order to determine the effect of the addition of h-BN on the properties of PEEK. In particular, the tensile strength, friction and wear behaviors, morphology, hardness, thermomechanical properties, and thermal conductivity of the nanocomposite were examined. Hexagonal boron nitride was added in filler concentrations of up to 5 wt. %. ...

Ultrathin BN nanosheets with zigzag edge: one-step chemical synthesis, applications in wastewater treatment and preparation of highly thermal-conductive BN-polymer composites

Ultrathin boron nitride nanosheets (BNNSs) were prepared at 300°C by a new variable-pressure one-step synthesis. An increase in pressure during the synthesis results in a decreased thickness for the nanosheets, which were all triangular in shape with zig-zag edges. The synthesized nanosheets exhibit high adsorption capacities for the organic dye methylene blue (MB). In addition to these properties, the BN nanosheets can be used as excellent thermal-conducting additives in BN-polymer ...

Thermal conductivity epoxy resin composites filled with boron nitride

The point of this research paper was to modify the thermal and mechanical properties of epoxy resin (EP) via the addition of boron nitride (BN) by a silane coupling agent (KH550). The use of 60 wt.% BN resulted in a thermal conductivity that was 5 times higher than the conductivity of the unmodified epoxy resin....

The adsorption of cationic surfactants on BN surface: Its effects on the thermal conductivity and mechanical properties of BN-epoxy composite

Four different cationic surfactants were allowed to adsorb on boron nitride (BN) over the pH range of 5.5 to 8 in separate experiments. The authors talk about the orientation of the surfactant relative to the BN particles. The use of these surfactants has changed the partial ionic surface of BN to a hydrophobic surface, which also led to an increase in thermal conductivity and more favourable mechanical properties....

Study on thermal conductive BN/novolac resin composites

Different concentrations of boron nitride (BN) were added to novolac resin in order to create a composite and modify the thermal conductivity which increased with increasing BN concentration. An instrument was used for the thermal conductivity measurements. Different size BN particles were also explored. The Maxwell-Eucken model was used to predict values which aligned well with experimental results....
