Thermal performance enhancement of palmitic-stearic acid by adding graphene nanoplatelets and expanded graphite for thermal energy storage: A comparative study

The purpose of this study was to improve the wettability of silicon carbide (SiC) nanowires, in order for them to be used as thermoconductive fluids. Multiple experiments were conducted by exposing the SiC nanowires to hydrofluoric acid, tetraethyl orthosillicate, polyvinylpyrolidone and sodium hydroxide. Various tests, including x-ray diffraction, Fourier transformation-infrared, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy, were performed on these various materials to identify ...

Using transient plane source sensor for determination of thermal properties of vacuum insulation panels

Researchers at the Chalmers University of Technology used the transient plane source (TPS) method to propose a technique for testing layered materials of a low conductive core, coated in a highly conductive thin film. The accuracy of the method to evaluate isotropic materials was tested prior to testing the ability of the TPS to analyze layered materials. Value differences were noted between the simulated and the measured temperature increases of ...

Circuit design for transient measurements of electrical properties of thin metal films and thermal properties of insulating solids or liquids

A circuit was designed for use in the transient hot-strip method for the determination of thermal properties of thermal insulators and electrical properties of thin metal films. The article describes how the output of power in the strip source can be kept constant throughout a measurement, and how a low voltage can be used even for thin metal films with high resistances....

On power variation in self-heated thermal sensors

This article describes power variation in making thermal conductivity measurements using contact transient methods. Solutions to the thermal conductivity equation assume that there is no variation in the power supplied to the sample surface. The article discusses how to minimize the power variation, how to incorporate the variation into the analytical solution, and how to estimate the variation and incorporate it into the solution of the thermal conductivity equation....

Mechanical, thermal and electrical properties of aluminum nitride/polyetherimide composites

In this study, aluminum nitride was treated with silane in an attempt to improve the performance of polyetherimide (PEI) composites. Various properties of the modified AlN/PEI composites were examined including the thermal conductivity by way of a thermal analyzer based on the transient plane source (TPS) method. Results showed that the AlN filler improved dispersion and interface of the matrix which enhanced the thermal conductivity of the PEI composites....
