The effect of silanize alumina nano-fillers addition on some physical and mechanical properties of heat cured polymethyl methacrylate denture base material

Despite its fragility, poor thermal properties, and high water sorption rates, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is commonly used in denture fabrication. This study aimed to examine how the addition of Aluminum oxide nanoparticles affected the properties of PMMA. A thermal constant analyzer measured the thermal properties of the Al2O3 nanoparticles using the transient plane source (TPS) method. Results showed that the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of acrylic resin improved ...

Determination of specific heat capacity by transient plane source

This study developed a model that used a transient plane source (TPS) sensor to measure the specific heat capacity of anisotropic materials. The underside of a sample holder with a diameter of 20 mm, and a height of 5 mm was attached to a Kapton TPS sensor. During measurements, the sample holder was hung inside a steel tube at atmospheric pressure. Results showed that the model underestimated the heat capacity, which suggests ...

Transient hot strip probe for measuring thermal properties of insulating solids and liquids

In this study, a modification to the transient hot-strip (THS) method demonstrated that the thermal properties of two different materials can be measured simultaneously when placed on either side of the hot-strip sensor. Three experiments tested samples of gabbro with a regular THS sensor, a wood sensor, and a fused quartz sensor, respectively. The accuracy of the results was better than 3% between each measurement. Despite a large difference in the ...

The thermophysical characterization of soils

Understanding the thermal properties of soils is important for applications in agronomy and engineering. The aim of this study was to examine the thermal properties of volcanically-derived Chilean soils using the Transient Plane Source (TPS) method. Results showed that thermal conductivity decreased with water content and with increasing amounts of organic carbon. Alternatively, soils with increased concentrations of crystalline compounds exhibited higher thermal conductivities. Results of this paper conclude that ...

Simultaneous measurements of thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of insulators, fluids and conductors using the transient plane source (TPS) technique

The authors report on the use of the newly developed transient plane source (TPS) technique for the measurement of thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of insulators, fluids and metals. The paper describes the theory and experimental setup used, including the sensor and how it works. The experimentally obtained values were compared to literature values and showed good agreement....
