Abstract: This article describes power variation in making thermal conductivity measurements using contact transient methods. Solutions to the thermal conductivity equation assume that there is no variation in the power supplied to the sample surface. The article discusses how to minimize the power variation, how to incorporate the variation into the analytical solution, and how to estimate the variation and incorporate it into the solution of the thermal conductivity equation.
