Mechanical and thermal characterization of cis-polyisoprene and trans-polyisoprene blends

The mechanical and thermal properties of blends of cis-polyisoprene (CPI) and trans-polyisoprene (TPI) are investigated and compared to those of the pure elastomers. It was found that the elastic modulus and tensile strength increased with increasing TPI content and that the thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, and specific heat of the blends also increased with increasing TPI content. In contrast to this trend, the measured thermal properties of pure TPI were ...

Thermal conductivity of porous materials

The effects of solid phase thermal conductivity, pore thermal conductivity, and pore volume fraction on the measured effective thermal conductivity of porous ceramics with pore volume fractions of 4 to 95% were investigated. The experimental results were then compared with pre-existing numerical models. It was found that the Maxwell-Eucken relation for closed porosity and the Landauer relation for open porosity were able to closely predict the effective thermal conductivity for tin oxide, ...

Effect of some metallic additives (Ag, Cd, and Sn) on thermal transport properties of a-Se

Molten selenium, silver, cadmium, and tin were used to prepare a-Se, and a-Se98M2 (M = Ag, Cd, and Sn) alloys in order to determine the thermo-physical properties of these materials using the transient plane source technique. In order for these alloys to be used in industrial applications such as phase change optical storage, photo electrochemical solar cells, and holographic recording systems, among others, their thermal transport properties needed to be ...

Thermal transport in chemically doped polyaniline materials

Four electrically conductive polymers were tested for their thermal transport properties to better understand their degradation mechanism with temperature. The samples that were tested were polyaniline polymers doped with varying amounts of nickel and aluminum. It was found that the thermal conductivities increased as the aluminum:nickel ratio increased, and that the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of the samples increased with temperature until they reached a maximum value, and ...

Measurement of Concrete Thermal Properties at High Temperature

The transient plane source technique was used to simultaneously measure the thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, and specific heat of a concrete sample to determine how these properties change when exposed to high temperature. The sample was heated and the properties were measured at 20, 90, 110, 200, 500, and 600oC. At this point, the sample was allowed to cool, and measurements were once again taken at 500, 200, and 20 oC. It was found that after exposure to ...
