Graphene-Enhanced Phase Change Materials for Thermal Management of Battery Packs

The potential of graphene and few-layer graphene to be used as fillers in a paraffin wax phase change material (PCM) was evaluated. The goal was to prepare a composite PCM with a higher thermal conductivity than the pure paraffin wax. The ability of the composite PCM to reduce temperature variation in lithium ion batteries was also evaluated over 10 charging – discharging cycles. It was found that ...

Low-temperature thermoelectric characteristics of Ca32xYbxCo3.95Ga0.05O9+d (0 < x < 0.10)

The thermoelectric properties of Ca3-xYbxCo3.95Ga0.05O9+delta where x = 0.00, 0.02, 0.05, and 0.10 were determined at temperatures less than 300 K. It was determined that the partial substitution of Yb3+ for Ca2+ resulted in an increase in resistivity and thermopower. The thermal conductivity was found to decrease with increasing Yb3+ content, and the sample producing the highest thermoelectric figure of merit at 300 K was the x = 0.05 sample....

Thermal properties of lightweight dry-mix shotcrete containing expanded perlite aggregate

Lightweight dry mix shotcrete was mixed with an expanded perlite aggregate (EPA) and the thermal and mechanical properties of the resulting samples were tested. A number of EPA/sand ratios were used to produce the samples. The TPS instrument was used to measure the thermal conductivity of the samples after 28 days, and values revealed that the thermal conductivity of the samples decreased with the amount of EPA added. The splitting ...

Measurements on cortical human, cortical bovine and simulated cortical bone

The purpose of this research was to understand the impact of heat on bone. The thermal conductivity of human cortical bone, bovine cortical bone, and simulated cortical bone. The TPS instrument was used to measure the thermal conductivity of the samples, the anisotropic module was applied. Density of each sample was also determined. Thermal conductivity measurements of the human cortical bone were similar to literature values, while the bovine results ...

Thermoelectric Properties of Ca3xDyxCo3.95Ga0.05O9+d

Thermal properties of Ca3xDyxCo3.95Ga0.05O9+d were quantified, as were the thermoelectric properties. X-ray diffraction was used to determine the phase of the samples. The thermopower of all samples was determined to be positive. The figure of merit and the power factor increased for the samples after doping had occurred....
