Analysis of effective thermal conductivity for mineral cast material structures with varying epoxy content using TPS method

The effective thermal conductivity of mineral cast epoxy granite materials with varying volume fractions of epoxy content was determined. This material was being studied for application as a structural material in high speed machine tools. Optimal materials for this application would have good chemical resistance and workability, a high strength-to-weight ratio, a low thermal conductivity, excellent damping properties, and they would be easy to produce. Eight samples with volume fractions ...

A slug calorimeter for evaluating the thermal performance of fire resistive materials

An equation for determining the effective thermal conductivity of fire resistive materials using a slug calorimeter was developed, and effective thermal conductivities were measured during heating and cooling cycles of these materials. The obtained values were compared to those obtained through measurements using the hot wire, and transient plane source methods. It was determined that the obtained values were in good agreement with those measured using these two methods. The ...

Structure and properties of rigid foams derived from quebracho tannin

Rigid foams were prepared using quebracho tannins and their physical and thermal properties were determined experimentally. These properties were then compared to those of rigid foams derived from mimosa tannins and pine tannins to determine if the nature of the flavonoid affects the properties of the foams. It was found that the preparation of the quebracho tannin-based foams involved the same formulation as that of mimosa tannin-based foams, whereas the ...

Graphene Thermal Properties: Applications in Thermal Management and Energy Storage

The authors present a review of the thermal properties of graphene, and present one example of a practical application of graphene in thermal management, as an additive to phase change materials. It was found that the use of liquid-phase-exfoliated graphene as a filler in phase change materials has potential to enhance the thermal management in high-power battery packs. The results also indicated that graphene had the ...

In situ characterization of metal hydride thermal transport properties

The thermal transport properties of Ti1.1CrMn powder were determined. This metal hydride shows promise for use in hydrogen storage applications due to its excellent cold-start properties. The thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, and specific heat of oxidized and activated powder samples of this metal hydride were determined using the transient plane source technique in a high pressure vessel. It was found that the effective thermal conductivity of the samples showed ...
