Evaluation of Morphological Effect on Thermal and  Mechanical Performance of PS/PMMA/CdS  Nanocomposite Systems

The thermal and mechanical properties of PS/PMMA immiscible polymer blends were investigated. The effects of the dispersion of CdS nanoparticles on these properties were also investigated. The dispersion of the nanoparticles was found to result in an increase in glass transition temperature, as well as the thermal conductivity. The PS matrix was found to become more brittle and the PMMA matrix was found to become more compact upon the ...

Improvement of Soft Tooling Process Through Particle Reinforcement with Polyurethane Mould

In the soft tooling process for making moulds, polyurethane is often used as a flexible mould material. The low thermal conductivity of polyurethane results in a long solidification time of the wax/plastic pattern produced in the soft tooling process. In an effort to address this issue, the authors of this article have added highly conductive fillers to polyurethane. The fillers used for this study were aluminum fine powder and ...

Thermal Conductivity Measurements in Nanofluids via the Transient Planar Source Method

The transient plane source (TPS) method was used to measure the thermal conductivity of automotive coolants, as well as equivalent nanofluids to these coolants. The results of the study indicated that the TPS was able to accurately measure the thermal conductivity, with an error of between 2 and 4%....

Thermal Conductivity Measurements of Polyamide Powder

Thermal conductivity measurements were performed on polyamide 12 and polyamide 11 powders containing carbon nanotubes using the transient plane source (TPS) technique. The effects of powder density and temperature on thermal conductivity were investigated, as well as the effects of using previously heated powder. The thermal conductivity was found to increase with increasing density. For tests involving fresh powder, the thermal conductivity was found to increase linearly with temperature. For the previously ...

Filler geometry and interface resistance of carbon nanofibres: Key parameters in thermally conductive polymer composites

The effects of intrinsic thermal conductivity, carbon filler geometry, and interface thermal resistance on the effective thermal conductivity of polymer composites were investigated. It was found that the length of carbon fillers and the interface thermal resistance were the dominant factors in determining the effective thermal conductivity of the composites. The authors suggest that the most thermally conductive polymer composite would contain long carbon nanofibers that have undergone surface functionalization ...
