Silver incorporated microencapsulation of n-hexadecane andn-octadecane appropriate for dynamic thermal management in textiles

In this paper, the authors discuss the preparation of microencapsulated phase change materials (PCMs). The PCMs used in this study were n-hexadecane and n-octadecane, and the shell was made up of poly(urea-formaldehyde). The effect of dispersing silver nanoparticles in the shells on the thermal storage properties of these encapsulated PCMs was also investigated. The enthalpies of fusion of the samples were determined experimentally, as was the thermal conductivity. It ...

Physical study of room-temperature-cured epoxy/thermally reduced graphene oxides with various contents of oxygen-containing groups

Epoxy nanocomposites containing thermally reduced graphene oxides (TRGs) with different oxygen contents were prepared and their mechanical and thermal properties were investigated. It was found that increasing the number of oxygen containing groups on the TRGs resulted in reduced agglomeration of the graphene oxides within the epoxy matrix. Therefore, in samples with a higher oxygen content, a higher interfacial contact area is present between the organic and inorganic phases in ...

Processing of polyurethane/carbon nanotubes composites using novel minimixer

Polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMEG) was used to functionalize multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) by grafting to produce MWNT-g-PTMEG. These functionalized nanotubes were then dispersed in thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) to form a TPU/MWNT nanocomposite. It was found that the functionalization resulted in improved dispersion of the nanotubes in the TPU material. The tensile strength and elongation at break of the nanocomposite were also enhanced by the addition of the nanotubes in ...

Influences of template concentration and epoxy functionality on porous epoxy systems: Characteristics of thermal stability, optical, dielectric, and mechanical properties

Porous epoxy thermosets were prepared using poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) as a template. The two epoxies that were used to make the porous thermosets were diglycidylether bisphenol-A (DGEBA), and triphenylolmethane triglycidyl ether (TGTPM). Trimethylolpropane tris(poly(propylene glycol)), amine terminated)ether (T-403) was used as a hardener in producing the thermosets. The porous thermosets were then characterized to determine their structural, thermal, optical, dielectric, and mechanical properties, and the results ...

Enhancement of physical properties of electroactive polyimide nanocomposites by addition of graphene nanosheets

The thermal imidization method was used to prepare an electroactive polyimide/graphene nanocomposite (EPGN) material membrane. It was determined that the composites that were formed had improved mechanical strength, thermal stability, and thermal conductivity, as well as an improved dielectric constant and a decreased gas permeability in comparison to electroactive polyimide membranes....
