The authors observed a remarkable synergistic effect when they used multi-graphene platelets (MGPs) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) together in an epoxy composite. The use of these two fillers together increased the tensile strength, thermal conductivity, solubility and compatibility relative to the various individual components. The 1D nanotubes inhibit the aggregation/stacking of the platelets and thus result in high contact area between MGP/MWCNT and the polymer matrix....
As electronic devices become smaller, power densities increase and so do hotspot temperatures, leading to a need for materials that can exchange heat better. The materials that facilitate this heat exchange are called thermal interface materials (TIMs). Graphene has been shown to demonstrate superior thermal conductivity and a particular form called few-layer graphene (FLG) was used in this project. A novel TIM was created by the mixing of a silver ...
The 'graphene-like' mechanical exfoliation of Bi2Te3 films is shown to have a significant effect on the thermoelectric properties of these films. The modification of thermal conductivity due to exfoliation leads to enhanced thermoelectric properties, known as figures of merit (ZT).Two different experimental techniques were used in order to determine the thermal conductivity of the exfoliated films: transient plane source (TPS) and laser flash technique (LFT). Annealing was performed ...
