Heat transfer through glassfiber fabrics coated with silicone resin

In the building and construction industry today, weather resistant and flame resistant materials have become fundamental. As such, silicone coated materials have been intensively researched, as they increase a given materials resistivity to heat and flames. Due to complications and time constraints when testing coating technologies in a lab setting, more enforcement has been placed on numerical methods. Based on stitching patterns, geometry models of the material and heat transfer equations, a numerical model was generated, predicting the effect of the coating thickness of materials, on heat transfer. Tests were done to ensure accuracy and determine the relative deviation between methods: < 7.0%. Using this model, scientists have been able to accurately predict the heat transfer performance of coated materials. It was determined that the thicker the silicone coating layer on the fabric, the higher the thermal insulation of the material and the lower the temperature on the back side of the material.
