A comprehensive characterization on the structural and thermophysical properties of sintered ore particles toward waste heat recovery applications

Thermophysical and structural properties of sintered ore particles (SOPs) were determined to expand upon the little documented information there is regarding the properties of these materials. In addition to this, a fractal model was also developed for the prediction of thermal conductivity in SOPs as a function of porosity. The experimental results revealed that the specific heat capacity increased with increasing temperature and that the thermal conductivity decreased with increasing ...

Factors influencing thermal conductivity and mechanical properties in 319 Al alloy cylinder heads

Although much research had been conducted to improve the ability of engine cylinder heads to respond to thermal stresses, not much research had been conducted on reducing thermal stresses. The authors set out to determine the thermal conductivity of a commercial aluminum 319 type alloy cylinder head with the future goal of improving the thermal conductivity of cylinder heads to better reduce the stress induced by increasing temperature. The cylinders were ...

Low-Temperature thermoelectric and magnetic characteristics of Ca2.9Bi0.1Co4−xFexO9+delta (0 < x < 0.10)

Thermoelectric materials are currently being researched as a source of energy in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The efficiency of these materials depends on their Seebeck coefficient, electrical resistivity, and thermal conductivity, as well as the absolute temperature. Cobalt oxides (Ca3Co4O9+delta) have been researched extensively as potential thermoelectric materials because of their high Seebeck coefficient and low electrical resistivity and thermal conductivity. Systems have been studied ...

The Effect of Cu2O Nanoparticle Dispersion on the Thermoelectric Properties of n-type Skutterudites

This article studies the effect of dispersion of Cu2O nanoparticles on the thermoelectric properties of Ba0.4Co4Sb12 and Sn0.4Ba0.4Co4Sb12 skutterudites. It was found that the dispersion of these nanoparticles resulted in an increased thermoelectric efficiency due to decreased electrical resistivity and thermal conductivity. The figure of merit for Cu2O dispersed Ba0.4Co4Sb12 reached a maximum value of 0.92 at 573 K. This value represents a ...

Mechanical and Adiabatic Properties of Silica Aerogel Doped with TiO2 Nanowire

The potential for the use of silica aerogels doped with TiO2 nanowires as thermal insulators was evaluated. It was found that the TiO2-doped aerogels showed good thermal insulation properties and that other desirable properties were retained upon the addition of TiO2 nanowires....
