Simultaneous measurements of thermal conductivity and diffusivity of Se80 Te(20-x) In(x) (x = 2, 4, 6 and 10) chalcogenide glasses at room temperature

A series of chalcogenide glasses were prepared by substituting In into Se80Te20 to replace Te. The transient plane source (TPS) technique was then used to measure the thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity and specific heat of the glass samples. It was determined that the substitution of Te with In caused the thermal conductivity of the sample to increase, although specific heat values remained nearly constant. Specific heat was also determined ...

Functionalized graphene sheet filled silicone foam nanocomposites

The authors report the synthesis of a novel functionalized graphene sheet (FGS)/silicone porous nanocomposite with varying concentrations of FGS. The physical and thermal properties of the synthesized nanocomposites were studied in depth. SEM and TEM were used to elucidate the physical microstructure of the materials, and the transient plane source (TPS) technique was used to measure thermal conductivity. The nanocomposite showed an increased thermal conductivity as compared to the ...

An experimental investigation of enhanced thermal conductivity and expedited unidirectional freezing of cyclohexane-based nanoparticle suspensions utilized as nano-enhanced phase change materials (NePCM)

Through the addition of copper oxide nanoparticles to cyclohexane in varying concentrations, a series of nano-enhanced phase change materials (NePCM) were prepared. The transient plane source (TPS) technique was used to characterize the NePCM at multiple temperatures. It was determined experimentally that increasing concentrations of nanoparticles in the liquid phase resulted in increasing thermal conductivity, but increasing nanoparticle concentration in the solid phase didn't have the same effect.Unidirectional freezing ...

Temperature dependence of thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of some composites using the transient plane source technique

The authors investigated the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of two composite materials, marble and magnesium oxychloride cement. The transient plane source (TPS) technique was the method used to determine the thermal properties of the aforementioned composites. The thermal properties were studied in the temperature range from 30 to 150°C....

Thermal conductivity of ceramic fibres as a function of temperature and press load

The transient plane source (TPS) technique was used to measure the thermal conductivity of three ceramic fibres with varying amounts of aluminium content. Specifically, the effect of temperature, press load per unit area and the aluminium content on thermal conductivity was studied. The three ceramic fibres studied were VK-60, ABK and Nextel/VK-80. It was experimentally determined that an increase in aluminium content resulted in decreased thermal conductivity of the ...
