A newly composed paraffin encapsulated prototype roof structure for efficient thermal management in hot climate

This study highlights the ongoing search for sustainable and thermally suitable phase-change materials (PCMs), for hot weather building climates, such as Iraq. This new PCM must have an extraordinary heat and cold retention ability. Building industries are interested in using paraffin’s in their roofing materials, because of their thermo-physical properties, their profitability to save on electricity and HVAC (heating-ventilating air conditioning) systems, their local abundance, as well as their ...

Fire resistance of wooden cellular slabs with rectangular perforations

Wooden cellular slabs with rectangular perforations are commonly used by civil engineers in settings such as concert halls, nurseries, hotels, airports, etc., for noise elimination and heat retention. In this study, fire resistance of perforated wooden slabs was tested in order to attain a numerical approach using the finite element method, when predicting the performance and behavior of the perforated wooden slabs. Paying close attention to the thermal properties of ...

Thermophysical Properties of Potassium Fluoride Tetrahydrate from (243 to 348) K

In this study, potassium tetrahydrate is being considered as a strong thermal energy storage material. Potassium tetrahydrate possess a low melting temperature and displays a large specific and volumetric enthalpy of fusion; all properties desirable of a thermal energy storage material. At temperatures ranging from 243 to 348 K, both solid and liquid potassium tetrahydrate were tested. The results obtained were then compared to two other potential thermal energy storage materials, with ...

Analysis of Inter-laboratory Testing of Non-loadbearing Gypsum/Steel-Stud Wall Assemblies

This report details a project undertaken in 2006 and 2007 to verify the fire rating of gypsum wall/steel stud assemblies. Samples were sent to six different fire testing laboratories and tested in 10 different furnaces. All of the laboratories returned ratings of 1-h for the samples. Researchers measured the thermal conductivity and specific heat of the gypsum wall samples at room temperature. Measurements were taken with both the paper in place and ...

Enhanced thermoelectric properties of hybridized conducting aerogels based on carbon nanotubes and pyrolyzed resorcinol–formaldehyde resin

Multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and carbonized resorcinol-formaldehyde (RF) resin were used to create a conducting aerogel with a high electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient but a low thermal conductivity. The addition of the MWCNTs caused the figure of merit (ZT) for the aerogel to increase by two orders of magnitude. The researchers determined that it was possibly to control the electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and Seebeck coefficient independently of ...
