This report details a project undertaken in 2006 and 2007 to verify the fire rating of gypsum wall/steel stud assemblies. Samples were sent to six different fire testing laboratories and tested in 10 different furnaces. All of the laboratories returned ratings of 1-h for the samples. Researchers measured the thermal conductivity and specific heat of the gypsum wall samples at room temperature. Measurements were taken with both the paper in place and ...
An investigation was conducted to determine the thermal properties of different types of gypsum boards from the USA and Japan. The thermal conductivity and specific heat were determined at room temperature using the transient plane source technique. Measurements were first performed with the paper backing still on the boards, and then once the backing had been removed. Removing the paper resulted in a change in the specific heat, but the ...
Gypsum board is a building material that shrinks and cracks at high temperatures, which compromises the structural integrity of buildings during fires. Researchers in this study set out to determine the behavior of gypsum board when exposed to real fire conditions. A Thermal Constants Analyzer (TPS) measured the thermal conductivity of the gypsum board samples at and above room temperature using the transient plane source (TPS) technique. Results showed that ...
