Studies on the Preparation of Polystyrene Thermal Conductivity Composites

Through the use of thermally conductive fillers the thermal properties of polystyrene (PS) are improved significantly. The different fillers include: aluminum oxide (Al2O3), magnesium oxide (MgO), B-silicon carbide particles (B-SiCp),  and  B-silicon carbide whiskers (B-SiCw). The use of PS flakes resulted in higher thermal conductivities than the use of PS particles, and the use of  B-silicon carbide whiskers resulted in the most favorable thermal conductivity and resulted in a ...

Effect of pore parameters on thermal conductivity of sintered LHP wicks

Through the use of the salt-leaching pore forming method, a series of sintered nickel capillary wicks with variable porosity and pore characteristics were synthesized. The thermal conductivities of these wicks (both dry and wet) were evaluated by the transient plane source (TPS) method. The factors that affect thermal conductivity were found to be the porosity and the pore size distribution....

Thermal and Rheological Properties of Microencapsulated Phase Change Materials

Microencapsulated phase change materials (MPCMs) are excellent materials for the storage of thermal energy, and through their dispersal into a carrier fluid, microencapsulated phase change slurries (MPCS) can be prepared. These slurries exhibit both excellent thermal energy storage and heat transfer properties. A series of MPCS were prepared for this research and subsequently tested for thermal conductivity and specific heat. Other methods of quantification include DSC, TGA, rheometry, and infrared ...

Properties and Performance of High-Purity Thermal Barrier Coatings

In order to prepare more thermally resistant materials for use as thermal barrier coatings, the authors performed experiments on yttrium stabilized-zirconia (7YSZ) in order to investigate sintering resistance and phase stability at high temperatures. It was theorized that the main factor that affected the sintering resistance and phase stability at high temperatures was the concentration of impurities (Al2O3 and Si2O) present in the 7YSZ. Therefore in this report ...

Synthesis and experimental investigation on thermal conductivity of nanofluids containing functionalized Polyaniline nanofibers

The authors propose a fast and novel method for the synthesis of polyaniline nanofibers and their incorporation into DI-water as a nanofluid. The thermal conductivities of the nanofluids are measured from 10 °C to 80 °C by using the transient plane source (TPS) method. The particle loading amount of nanofibers affected the thermal conductivity of the nanofluids. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) was used to characterize the physical properties of the nanofibers....
