Carbon fiber reinforced carbon aerogel composites for thermal insulation prepared by soft reinforcement

In order to improve the brittleness and shrinkage experienced by carbon aerogels during the drying process, carbon fibers were added to the aerogel. Supercritical drying was used in order to generate the aerogels, and a machine was used to measure the thermal conductivity of the synthesized aerogels. This new method resulted in crack-free carbon fiber reinforced aerogel composites and may lead to more applications for carbon aerogels....

Properties of graphene produced by the high pressure-high temperature growth process

In this article, the authors present a novel method for the synthesis of graphene layers that can be used in advanced electronic devices, among other applications. The preparation method involves the use of a high-pressure high-temperature process where the pressure and temperature are closely monitored in order to preferentially prepare graphene layers. The quality of the material synthesized is much better than previously reported, and the size of the layers ...

Analysis on chemical and physical properties of bio-oil pyrolyzed from rice husk

The pyrolysis of rice husk was performed in order to product bio-oil which was then analyzed for its elemental and chemical composition, basic fuel properties, distillation, thermal properties, etc. Also, the effect of addition of methanol to the bio-oil was studied and it was concluded that the addition of methanol to the bio-oil was beneficial. Thermal analysis was performed by a Thermal Constants Analyzer and via thermogravimetric analysis (TGA)....

Morphology, mechanical, cross-linking, thermal, and tribological properties of nitrile and hydrogenated nitrile rubber/multi-walled carbon nanotubes composites prepared by melt compounding: The effect of acrylonitrile content and hydrogenation

Nanocomposites were prepared by the mixing of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with nitrile and hydrogenated nitrile elastomers (NBR and HNBR). A variety of methods including TEM, SEM, and XRD were used in order to investigate the morphology of the nanocomposites. Many mechanical properties of the nanocomposites were measured and reported. A machine was used to measure the thermal properties of the synthesized nanocomposites....

Alignment of carbon nanotubes comprising magnetically sensitive metal oxides in heat transfer nanofluids

High speed microscopy was used to allow real time visualization of the movement of nanoparticles made up of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) and Fe2O3. An electrostatic force was induced to the nanotube/Fe2O3 composite and caused perfect conjugate structures which result in excellent thermal, electrical, and mechanical properties. The alignment of the carbon nanotubes in nanosuspensions may offer new opportunities for the development of nanofluids....
