Measurements of thermal conductivity of solid eicosane-based NePCM

This paper aimed to measure the thermal conductivity of pure eicosane, eicosane-CuO and eicosane-MWCNTs solid composites. A Thermal Constants Analyzer measured the thermal conductivity of the nanostructure-enhanced PCMs using the transient plane source (TPS) method. Results showed that the thermal conductivity increased rapidly as the temperature of the solid composites approached the melting point. Additionally, the samples that were solidified in an oven, and the eicosane-MWCNT samples experienced the largest ...

Enhanced thermal conductivity of n octadecane containing carbon based nanomaterials

This paper focused on determining the thermal conductivity of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and carbon nanofibers (CNFs) that were dispersed throughout n-octadecane as phase change materials (PCMs). The Thermal Constants Analyzer TPS measured the thermal conductivity of the n-octadecane samples at solid and liquid phases using the transient plane source (TPS) method. Results showed that the thermal conductivity of the solid phase n¬-octadecane/MWCNTs samples increased with nanotube concentration. ...

Polymer encapsulated paraffin wax to be used as phase change material for energy storage

In this thesis study, the sensor was used to characterize polymer encapsulated paraffin waxes as phase change materials (PCM). The main purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the polystyrene (PS) and PS: wax microcapsules on the morphology and thermal, mechanical and conductivity properties of the polypropylene matrix. Post-melting, the PP microcapsules were extremely well dispersed within the matrix and there was a strong interaction between them ...

Thermal performance enhancement of palmitic-stearic acid by adding graphene nanoplatelets and expanded graphite for thermal energy storage: A comparative study

The purpose of this study was to improve the wettability of silicon carbide (SiC) nanowires, in order for them to be used as thermoconductive fluids. Multiple experiments were conducted by exposing the SiC nanowires to hydrofluoric acid, tetraethyl orthosillicate, polyvinylpyrolidone and sodium hydroxide. Various tests, including x-ray diffraction, Fourier transformation-infrared, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy, were performed on these various materials to identify ...

A capric–palmitic–stearic acid ternary eutectic mixture/expanded graphite composite phase change material for thermal energy storage

This study suggested the use of capric acid–palmitic acid–stearic acid ternary eutectic mixture/expanded graphite (CA–PA–SA/EG) composite phase change material (PCM), as a low-temperature heat storage material. With a mass ratio of CA:PA:SA = 79.3 : 14.7 : 6.0, the mixture was prepared and its mass ratio compared to that of the CA-PA-SA/EG composite could reach as high as 90%. The melting temperature of the CA-PA-SA/EG composite was ...
