Daniel Flynn

29th International Thermal Conductivity Conference Award Co-Winner 2007

In 1958, Daniel Flynn joined the Heat Transfer Section in the Building Research Division at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). During that period, Flynn was instrumental in designing and building a wide variety of thermal conductivity instruments, including the prototype for a line-heat-source guarded hot plate, and a slug calorimeter for evaluating the thermal performance of fire resistive materials. Flynn also served as a guest researcher in the Heat Transfer and Alternative Energy Systems Group at NIST. In 1980, he was appointed as Chief of the Mechanical Production Metrology Division and managed approximately 50 full-time personnel unt. Flynn continued his career at NIST as a Group Leader until taking an early retirement in 1990. Daniel Flynn is currently the Vice President of MetSys Corporation, an Industrial company manufacturing electrical measurement instruments.
