Abstract: The transient line source technique was used to take thermal conductivity measurements over the entire liquid range of toluene at 1atm. Unlike any other liquid (with the exception of water) the thermal conductivity was not completely a linear function of temperature. Instead, there was an anomaly pre-freezing where the thermal conductivity dropped from what was expected. This paper attributes this behavior to the appearance of multi-molecular clusters in the liquid at that temperature.
