Abstract: Thermal management is extremely important for large size batteries, however, inaccurate values have been used in the past for modeling. This paper investigates the thermal conductivity of the composite cathodes. This knowledge is needed to find the true thermal properties of lithium polymer batteries. The guarded heat flow meter was used to find these values, achieving a 5% precision in measurement. The measurements of composite cathodes and lithium polymer electrolytes can be used to estimate the thermal conductivities of a cell using thermal-resistance-in-series/parallel models.
