Abstract: Understanding the pyrolysis model for medium density fibreboard (MDF) is important for infrastructure fire safety. The purpose of this study was to determine the thermophysical properties of charred and uncharred MDF. The thermal conductivity of these inhomogeneous fibreboards was measured using a Thermal Constants Analyser in conjunction with the transient plane source (TPS) technique. Results showed that the experimental results were in good agreement with literature values, and specifically, the thermal conductivity of MDF was higher at the surface of the samples rather than at the centre because of density differences.
