Effect of nano CdS dispersion on thermal conductivity of PS/PVC and PS/PMMA polymeric blend nanocomposites

The goal of this study was to determine how adding CdS nanoparticles to two polymer blends (PS/PVC and PS/PMMA) affects their thermal conductivities. Also, the effect of increasing the wt% of both PVC and PMMA in their respective blends was investigated. The thermal conductivity of the samples was determined through a transient plane method. The thermal conductivity of both polymer blends increased with the addition of CdS nanoparticles. ...

Thermal conductivities of methane-methylcyclohexane and tetrabutylammonium bromide clathrate hydrate

The thermal conductivities of gas hydrates are well documented, but the thermal conductivities of structure H (sH) methane-methylcyclohexane (MCH) hydrate and type A tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) semi clathrate hydrate have no experimental data. The purpose of this study was to determine the thermal conductivities of sH MCH hydrate and TBAB semi clathrate hydrate. The thermal conductivity was measured using a single sided transient plane source (TPS) method. Most gas hydrates ...

An experimental study on the inhomogeneities of aluminum foams measuring the thermal conductivity by using the transient plane source method

The production of closed cell foams has recently advanced as the materials gain interest. The purpose of this study was to use the transient plane source (TPS) method to measure the thermal conductivity of AlSi7 closed cell foams. Results showed that thermal conductivity increased with sample density, and experimental results were higher than the predictions of the theoretical models. Measurements were also carried out on different directions of the samples ...

Thermal degradation and fire performance of intumescent silicone-based coatings

Intumescent paints protect steel structures from fires by creating insulative foams when heated above a critical temperature. This paper examines the fire resistance capabilities of phenyl silicone coatings in comparison to intumescent paints. A thermal constant analyzer measured the thermal conductivity of the silicone-based coatings using the transient plane source (TPS) technique. Results showed that the silicone/modifier coating consistently had lower thermal conductivities than the silicone coating. At heightened ...

Influence of the nature of aggregates on the behaviour of concrete subjected to elevated temperature

In this paper, the physical characteristics of concretes containing three types of aggregates were examined under high temperatures. A thermal analyzer measured the thermal conductivity of the concrete samples using the transient plane source (TPS) method. Results showed that the thermal conductivity of well-crystallized concretes had a stronger inverse relationship with temperature than the poorly-crystallized samples did. As well, high-performance concretes retained their thermally conductive properties better than normal concretes....
