In this study, variations of thermal properties that depend on the injection molding technique were analyzed. Thermal conductivity was measured using a two-sided a transient plane source method. Results indicate that polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is the most significant raw material on short glass fiber (SGF) and PTFE- reinforced polycarbonate (PC) composites for thermal conductivity. This approach can effectively help in determining the optimal mixture ratio settings for reinforcement under multi-response consideration....
Using phase change materials (PCMs) for passive cooling is an effective thermal management technique as they absorb and release large amount of latent heat. However, PCMs have low thermal conductivity and liquid leakage often occurs after the solid-liquid phase transitions. In this study, a Wood’s alloy/expanded graphite composite PCM was developed to achieve desirable thermal performance. The thermal conductivities of the composite samples were measured, based on a ...
Mechanical flexibility, low cost, and lightweight design are crucial elements for high demand electronic devices and has increased the application of flexible printed circuit board (FPCB). However, FPCB exhibits stress under operating conditions compared to rigid printed circuit board (RPCB), and was studied to investigate the effects of airflow rate and heat on FPCB attached with a ball grid array (BGA) package. Thermal conductivity and specific heat were measured using ...
Thermocells are heat waste harvesting devices that operate at room temperature. The addition of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) to ionic liquids (ILs) in thermocells enhances electrical conductivity, and the devices can operate at higher temperatures. In this study, various properties of ILs containing MWCNTs were examined, and a TPS system measured the thermal conductivities of the samples using the transient plane source (TPS) method. Results showed that the thermal conductivity ...
The application of carbon nanotubes (CNT) to thermal management devices has recently drawn much attention. This study produced and examined metal-carbon nanotube composites for use in highly conductive yet stable thermal management materials. The structural and thermophysical properties of metal-CNT composites were examined, including the measurement of thermal conductivity using the Thermal Constants Analyzer TPS transient plane source (TPS) method. Results showed that generally, inverse relationships were observed between thermal ...
