Effect of surfactant and electron treatment on the electrical and thermal conductivity as well as thermal and mechanical properties of ethylene vinyl acetate/expanded graphite composites

One way to improve thermal and electrical conductivity of conventional polymers is by combining polymer matrices with highly conductive fillers. This study involves an analysis of electrical and thermal conductivities of nonirradiated and irradiated samples of ethylene vinyl acetate 18 (EVA18) containing expanded graphite (EG) or SDS-EG. Thermal conductivity measurements were at room temperature. An increase in thermal conductivity was found with increasing filler content in all investigated samples, due to ...

Hybrid graphene aerogels/phase change material composites: Thermal conductivity, shape-stabilization and light-to-thermal energy storage

The use of graphene aerogel has recently been studied with highly functional phase change materials (PCMs) to create 3D structures for improved thermal conductivity and shape-stabilization. In this study, hybrid graphene aerogels (HGA) comprising graphene oxide (GO) and graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) were prepared. Thermal conductivity was measured and results found thermal conductivity increased linearly with low GNP content and continued to grow at a slower rate with increased GNP. Improvement ...

Enhanced comprehensive performance of polyethylene glycol based phase change material with hybrid graphene nanomaterials for thermal energy storage

In this study, high performance composite phase change materials (PCMs) were created. Graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets were used as supporting materials to keep the shape of polyethylene glycol (PEG) stable during phase change, and graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) were used as conductive fillers. Thermal conductivity was measured with a transient plane source method. Thermal conductivity was found to increase linearly with GNP loading, and PEG/GO/GNP composite PCMs exhibited higher ...

Thermal properties of BaTiO3/Ag composites at different temperatures

In this study, the influence of silver phase on thermal properties of BaTiO₃/Ag composites are investigated. A thermal analyzer was used to measure the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of the composites at ambient and elevated temperature up to 175°C. Results found that for a fixed silver composition, the thermal conductivity of the composite remained nearly constant below its tetragonal to cubic transformation temperature (120°C), then decreased and stayed ...

Using a d-optimal mixture design to study the thermal properties of short glass fiber- and polytetrafluoroethylene- reinforced polycarbonate composites

In this study, variations of thermal properties that depend on the injection molding technique were analyzed. Thermal conductivity was measured using a two-sided a transient plane source method. Results indicate that polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is the most significant raw material on short glass fiber (SGF) and PTFE- reinforced polycarbonate (PC) composites for thermal conductivity. This approach can effectively help in determining the optimal mixture ratio settings for reinforcement under multi-response consideration....
