Simultaneous determination of thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of food and agricultural materials using a transient plane-source method

Since there was no literature on using the transient plane source method for the measurement of thermal conductivity and diffusivity of food products the authors did it themselves. They tested a variety of products including water, mineral oil, ethanol, beef, chicken and apples and determined that using the transient plane source method to simultaneously measure thermal conductivity and diffusivity was an accurate method....

Influence of pH on Nanofluids- Viscosity and Thermal Conductivity

This article outlines the effect of adding Al2O3 and Cu nanoparticles to water and measuring the thermal conductivities and viscosities of the mixtures. The effect of pH was taken into account and it was found that there are optimal pH values for each of the nanoparticle mixtures that give the highest thermal conductivities and lowest viscosities. Research shows that thermal conductivity and viscosity are closely related to each other. ...

Measuring and predicting in-plane thermal conductivity of carbon-filled nylon 6,6 polymer composites

Two different types of carbon (synthetic graphite particles and carbon fiber) were added to nylon 6,6 and then these composites were tested using the transient plane source method in order to determine the through-plane and in-plane thermal conductivities. The thermal conductivities were found to be proportional to the volume percent of carbon added. A simple empirical model was also developed in order to estimate in-plane thermal conductivities for a range of ...

Measuring thermal conductivities of anisotropic synthetic graphite-liquid crystal polymer composites

Synthetic graphite particles were added to a liquid crystal polymer and then these composites were tested for through-plane and in-plane thermal conductivity using the TPS method. The authors expanded on an empirical model created to determine the relationship between thermal conductivity and volume percent of filler. This empirical model can now be used to approximate the in-plane thermal conductivities for a range of applications....

Thermal conductivity of cement composites containing rubber waste particles: Experimental study and modelling

The authors of this article look to use shredded waste tires as a component of a cement composite in order to reuse the discarded material as well as improve the thermal properties of the composite. The TPS method was used in order to determine thermal conductivities of the dry components of the composite, and the auto-coherent homogenisation model was used to determine the thermal conductivity of the rubber/cement/air ...
