Measurement and model on thermal conductivities of carbon nanotube nanorefrigerants

The authors prepared a series of carbon nanotube (CNT) nanorefrigerants with varying size and amount of nanotubes to determine how these properties affect thermal conductivity. A TPS Instrument was used to measure thermal conductivity of the nanorefrigerants; R113 was used as a host nanorefrigerant. It was determined that higher concentrations of smaller diameter CNTs results in higher nanofrigerant thermal conductivity. A few theoretical models were also used to compare to ...

Low-temperature thermal conductivity measurement apparatus: design assembly, calibration and measurement on (Y123, Bi2223) superconductors

The transient plane source (TPS) technique was used for the measurement of thermal properties of superconductors at low temperatures. The superconductors explored include Y123 and Bi2223. One of the main goals of the work was to develop a system where measurements could be made in the temperature range from 84 - 293 K....

Effect of treatment on the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of oil-palm-fiber-reinforced phenolformaldehyde composites

Oil-palm fiber reinforced phenolformaldehyde composites were prepared and then tested for their thermal properties. Thermal conductivity and diffusivity were measured using the transient plane source (TPS) technique. The composites were then treated using different methods (alkali, silane and acetic acid treatments) and the thermal conductivity and diffusivity were measured again to see how the treatment affected the thermal properties of the composite. It was found that thermal conductivity increased varying ...

Thermal properties of pineapple leaf fiber reinforced composites

Varying weight percentages of pineapple leaf fiber were added to phenolformaldehyde (PF) in order to generate a composite material. Using the transient plane source (TPS) technique, the thermal conductivities of the varying weight percentage composites were studied. It was found that increasing weight % pineapple leaf fiber resulted in decreasing thermal conductivity and diffusivity of the composites. The experimental results are compared to results produced by two models (the Rayleigh-Maxwell and ...

Thermal conductivity of AZ91 magnesium integral foams measured by the Transient Plane Source method

Using the transient plane source (TPS) method, the thermal conductivities of a series of magnesium integral foams have been measured experimentally. The main factor contributing to the thermal conductivity of the magnesium foams is the bulk density. In addition to using the TPS technique, micro-computed tomography (µCT) was used to explain any deviations from expected thermal conductivity....
