Thermal Conductivity Enhancement by using Nano-Material in Phase Change Material for Latent Heat Thermal Energy Storage Systems

Al2O3, TiO2 nanoparticles, and carbon nanotubes were added to Iraqi paraffin wax in varying quantities to determine the optimum filler content for the enhancement of thermal conductivity. The thermal conductivity was enhanced by 65 and 40% for samples containing 5 wt. % of Al2O3 and TiO2 nanoparticles, respectively. It was concluded that the addition of these nanoparticles to paraffin wax enhanced the thermal conductivity of the phase change material without sacrificing its ...

Experimental study of the thermal properties of composite stearic acid / coffee grounds / graphite for thermal energy storage

Composite phase change materials were prepared using stearic acid, coffee grounds, and graphite. The coffee grounds were used as a supporting material for the stearic acid, and the graphite was added in an effort to enhance the thermal conductivity of the composite. The composites were characterized by SEM and FT-IR, the thermal conductivity was determined by the phase change temperature and latent heat were determined by differential scanning calorimetry. The ...

Graphene Thermal Properties: Applications in Thermal Management and Energy Storage

The authors present a review of the thermal properties of graphene, and present one example of a practical application of graphene in thermal management, as an additive to phase change materials. It was found that the use of liquid-phase-exfoliated graphene as a filler in phase change materials has potential to enhance the thermal management in high-power battery packs. The results also indicated that graphene had the ...

Thermal energy storage and release of a new component with PCM for integration in floors for thermal management of buildings

A composite phase change material (PCM) was formulated from commercial blended paraffin and a styrene-butadiene-styrene block. The thermo-physical properties of this composite PCM were then evaluated using the transient plane source method and differential scanning calorimetry. It was determined that there was a significant difference in the thermal conductivity of the PCM in the solid state when compared to that in the liquid state. The second part of this study ...

Temperature Dependence of Thermophysical Properties of Disodium Hydrogenphosphate Dodecahydrate

Disodium hydrogenphosphate dodecahydrate was investigated for its thermophysical properties and the effects that temperature had on these properties. The goal of this work was to determine if this material was a suitable phase change material for use in supercooled thermal energy storage. It was found that this hydrate could efficiently exchange energy between itself and heat sources, it could reduce heat loss from energy storage systems, and it could store ...
