Measurement of thermal properties of polyaniline/metal from room temperature to 170°C

The effective thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity were investigated for polyaniline (PANI) composites containing iron and manganese at varying temperatures. Composites were prepared containing 100% Fe, 50% Fe and 50% Mn, and 100% Mn. It was determined that both the effective thermal conductivity and effective thermal diffusivity increased with increasing iron content. The authors attribute this increase to the increase in crosslinking density between the nitrogen in PANI and Fe....

Effect of in and Zn additives on some thermal properties of a-Se

Zn-Se alloys have potential applications in blue light emitting diodes and blue diode lasers, as well as in white LEDs and infrared lenses. Se-In alloys have potential applications in solar cells due to their energy band gap, which is close to the optimum range for solar energy conversion. The thermo-physical properties of these two types of alloys have been investigated to further their applicability in industrial applications. The thermal conductivity, ...

Temperature dependence of the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of treated oil-palm-fiber-reinforced phenolformaldehyde composites

The effective thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of polymer composites consisting of phenolformaldehyde matrix and oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB) fibers were determined using the transient plane source method. The polymer composites were treated with one of alkali, silanol, or acetic acid to determine the effects of each treatment on the thermo-physical properties of the composites. The effect of temperature on these properties was also evaluated. It was determined ...

Analysis of effective thermal conductivity for mineral cast material structures with varying epoxy content using TPS method

The effective thermal conductivity of mineral cast epoxy granite materials with varying volume fractions of epoxy content was determined. This material was being studied for application as a structural material in high speed machine tools. Optimal materials for this application would have good chemical resistance and workability, a high strength-to-weight ratio, a low thermal conductivity, excellent damping properties, and they would be easy to produce. Eight samples with volume fractions ...

Thermal characterisation of a lightweight mortar containing expanded perlite for underground insulation

Perlite was added to mortar in order to determine if the resulting composite was more thermally insulating than conventional shotcrete. This study was conducted to determine if shotcrete in which sand has been replaced by perlite can potentially be used as thermal insulation for underground mines. It was found that the addition of perlite decreased the weight of the shotcrete, as well as the thermal conductivity and diffusivity, but decreased ...
