The transient line source probe needle has become a very common tool for measuring the
thermal conductivities of soils and some rocks. However, field measurements using this technique can be difficult with densely packed soil and rock, as the process of inserting the probe can disturb the surrounding sample or damage the equipment. This article investigates the effects of drilling a hole ...

High temperatures play a crucial role in the deterioration of the thermal properties of rocks and can threaten the structural integrity of many applications in engineering. This research focused on the variations in thermal diffusivity of sandstone after high temperature heating. Thermal properties of the samples were measured before and after heating using a thermal constants analyzer based on the Transient Plane Source (TPS) technique. Thermal diffusivity of the sandstone ...

This study looked to analyze temperature effects on thermal transport properties of dry granite, gabbro, marble, and sandstone samples. An instrument was used with a high temperature chamber to perform thermal conductivity measurements on the rock samples. The thermal conductivity of the granite, marble, and sandstone samples were found to decrease with increasing ambient temperature, while the gabbro remained almost constant....
