Thermal conductivity of nanoporous glass alumina film and composites

The thermal conductivity of nanoporous glass alumina films (NGAFs) were theoretically and experimentally studied in this paper. The thermal conductivity of pristine NGAFs and silver nanowire-infused NGAFs of various pore sizes and porosities were measured with a thermal constants analyser based on the transient plane source (TPS) method. Theoretical and experimental results were consistent with one another, and indicated that the pore radius and porosity of the films influenced thermal ...

Sol-gel route to carbon nanotube borosilicate glass composites

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) combined with inorganic matrices are not structurally sound unlike singular CNTs which have good mechanical performances. Borosilicate glass, commercially known as Pyrex, is durable but has yet to be successfully fabricated using the sol-gel technique. In this paper, the sol-gel technique was used to manufacture borosilicate glass matrix composites with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The technique measured thermal conductivity of the materials using the transient plane source (...

Simultaneous measurements of thermal conductivity and diffusivity of Se80 Te(20-x) In(x) (x = 2, 4, 6 and 10) chalcogenide glasses at room temperature

A series of chalcogenide glasses were prepared by substituting In into Se80Te20 to replace Te. The transient plane source (TPS) technique was then used to measure the thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity and specific heat of the glass samples. It was determined that the substitution of Te with In caused the thermal conductivity of the sample to increase, although specific heat values remained nearly constant. Specific heat was also determined ...

Temperature dependence of effective thermal conductivity and effective thermal diffusivity of Se90In10 bulk chalcogenide glass

Thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity were simultaneously measured using the transient plane source (TPS) technique. These values were measured during heating from 303 to 323 K and cooling from 323 to 303 K. It was determined that both thermal conductivity and diffusivity were at their maximum at 313 K, which is in the range of the glass transition temperature....

Applications of some thermo-analytical techniques to glasses and polymers

The authors highlight different methods of studying the purity, composition, and structural changes of polymeric and glass materials. These methods include the use of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and the transient plane source (TPS) technique. The quality of the TPS Technique is outlined and the authors praise the high quality of the machine. In addition to this, thermal analysis is carried out on some polymeric composites (cis-polyisoprene (CPI)/trans-polyisoprene (TPI) ...
