Thermal response of polystyrene/poly methyl methacrylate (PS/PMMA) polymeric blends

The phase behavior of polymeric materials is understood through glass transition temperature. It is a temperature boundary above which the polymeric material is soft and viscous, and becomes hard, brittle, and glassy below this temperature. In the present work, PS/PMMA immiscible polymer blend samples are studied at different compositional ranges. Thermal transport properties of PS/PMMA polymeric blends were measured , from room temperature to 120°C. Variation in thermal conductivity ...

Evaluation of Morphological Effect on Thermal and  Mechanical Performance of PS/PMMA/CdS  Nanocomposite Systems

The thermal and mechanical properties of PS/PMMA immiscible polymer blends were investigated. The effects of the dispersion of CdS nanoparticles on these properties were also investigated. The dispersion of the nanoparticles was found to result in an increase in glass transition temperature, as well as the thermal conductivity. The PS matrix was found to become more brittle and the PMMA matrix was found to become more compact upon the ...

Synthesis and Characterization of Multifunctional Nanocomposites of Toughened Epoxy Reinforced With Carbon Nanotubes

The authors have developed a method for the functionalization of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). The functionalization of the SWCNTs is useful in helping to produce a better dispersion of nanotubes throughout a polymer matrix. Better dispersion of nanotubes was thought to result in an improvement in the mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties of nanocomposite polymers. It was determined that the method produced effective surface modification of the nanotubes. The elastic ...

Temperature dependence of effective thermal conductivity and effective thermal diffusivity of Se90In10 bulk chalcogenide glass

Thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity were simultaneously measured using the transient plane source (TPS) technique. These values were measured during heating from 303 to 323 K and cooling from 323 to 303 K. It was determined that both thermal conductivity and diffusivity were at their maximum at 313 K, which is in the range of the glass transition temperature....

Studies on Preparation and Property Researches of EP/SiC Thermal Conductivity Composites

Epoxy resin/silicon carbide (Ep/SiC) composites were prepared by the casting method and subsequently characterized for their mechanical and thermal properties. It was determined that an increasing mass fraction of SiC in the epoxy resin resulted in increasing thermal conductivity of the composites. Using 50 wt.% SiC resulted in a thermal conductivity of 0.7152 W/mK, which is three times that of pure epoxy resin. Mechanical properties peaked with 10 wt.% SiC. ...
