Thermally conductive composite films of hexagonal boron nitride and polyimide with affinity-enhanced interfaces

The focus of this research was to discover new thermally conductive ceramic/plastic composites for their use in thermal management. In this experiment, the thermal constants analyzer was used to measure the thermal conductivity of composite films containing hexagonal boron nitride particles and polyimide. Upon testing, a thermal conductivity of 7 W/mK with a 60% filler content was noted, as compared to a thermal conductivity of 5 W/mK for the plastic ...

Towards Thermoconductive, Electrically Insulating Polymeric Composites with Boron Nitride Nanotubes as Fillers

In this experiment, the thermal conductivity of several composites, with varying matrix composition and boron nitride nanotubes fillers, was investigated. Poly(methyl methacrylate), polystyrene, poly(vinyl butyral) and poly(ethylene vinyl alcohol) were the matrix compositions analyzed. The results indicated that with the addition of the boron nitride nanotube fillers, there was a 20-fold increase in the thermal conductivity of the polymer. Several other properties were analyzed alongside of thermal ...

Effect of coupling agents on the thermal conductivity of aluminum particle/epoxy resin composites

In this research, the effect of four different coupling agents on the thermal conductivity of an aluminum particle reinforced epoxy composite, was studied. The results concluded that with an increasing concentration of aluminum particles in the epoxy, an increase in the thermal conductivity of the composite was noted. Prior to being treated with the coupling agents, the composites experienced a thermal conductivity reading of 1.03 W/mK. Post treatment, the thermal ...

Effects of carbon fillers in thermally conductive polypropylene based resins

Researchers have determined the potential of increasing the thermal conductivity of insulating polymers by adding conductive fillers. One common application this may be used for, is fuel cell bipolar plates. In this article, researchers tested varying amounts of three different carbon fillers (black carbon, synthetic graphite particles, and carbon nanotubes), by adding them to polypropylene. Both single fillers and combination fillers were studied for their potential effects on the thermal ...

Thermal conductivity of styrene butadiene rubber compounds with natural rubber prophylactics waste as filler

Presently, converting waste into reusable materials is a high priority among researchers. This study presents the idea of recycling the natural rubber (NR) from latex condom waste, for its use as a potential filler in styrene butadine rubber (SBR). To properly understand the SBR material ratio aspect, thermal behaviour monitoring, such as thermal conductivity measurements using the Transient Plane Source method, was performed. A linear increase in thermal conductivity of ...
