Experimental investigations on temperature-dependent thermo-physical and mechanical properties of pultruded GFRP composites

The analysis of a pultruded E-glass reinforced polyester (GFRP) composite is performed by TGA, DSC and DMA methods. The data obtained from these analysis methods agreed well with theoretical models applied to the GFRP. The specific heat capacity of the composite was found to decrease over heating and the decomposition process....

Thermoregulating response of cotton fabric containing microencapsulated phase change materials

A series of fabrics containing different mass ratios of polyurethane binder to melamine-formaldehyde microcapsules were created and their thermal properties were investigated. A variety of thermal analysis methods including guarded hot plate and differential scanning calorimetry were employed to characterize the series of fabrics. The mass ratio of microcapsules to polyurethane binder had a significant effect on the thermal properties of the fabrics and the researchers pointed out a specific ...

Thermal conductivity enhancement of MWNTs on the PANI/tetradecanol form-stable PCM

PANI/tetradecanol/MWNTs composites were prepared via in-situ polymerization and analyzed for their use as phase change materials. The MWNTs were randomly dispersed in the composite and it was determined that the PCM was form-stable and that phase separation of the MWNTs and PANI/tetradecanol wouldn't occur....

Influence of core materials on thermal properties of melamine-formaldehyde microcapsules

A series of melamine-formaldehyde microcapsules were synthesized using an in-situ polymerization and subsequently characterized for their thermal and structural properties. SEM and FT-IR were used to investigate the structural properties and DSC and TGA were used to investigate the thermal properties. The authors concluded that the thermo-physical properties of the microcapsules were related to the synthesis conditions and the core content of the capsules....

Preparation and thermal characterization of expanded graphite/paraffin composite phase change material

Expanded graphite (EG)/paraffin composite materials were prepared with the weight % of EG varying from 0 to 10%. It was found that the addition of EG to paraffin greatly improved the thermal conductivity of the material. The melting and freezing points of the PCM were compared to those of the pure paraffin. Also the heat storage/retrieval rates were studied and demonstrated improved properties....
