Abstract: This article summarizes the history of the development and improvements to the transient hot-wire technique. Starting with the discussions on “gas conduction”, and concluding with some modern applications, it covers the interactions of each component of the apparatus, including the cells, bridges, software employed and the theory development. The authors concludes the paper by outlining some issues with the current techniques and describes their recommendations for future advancements.
