Abstract: In this paper silica aerogels were synthesized using solvent exchange and surface modification of wet gels from waterglass using IPA/TMCS/n-Hexane solution. The densities, porosities, and specific surface areas were measured. Three different mixing methods were employed to determine their effect on the thermal and mechanical properties of the aerogel. Thermal conductivity testing revealed thermal conductivity readings ranging from 0.03–0.12 W/m·K.
