Temperature dependence of effective thermal conductivity and effective thermal diffusivity of Se90In10 bulk chalcogenide glass

Thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity were simultaneously measured using the transient plane source (TPS) technique. These values were measured during heating from 303 to 323 K and cooling from 323 to 303 K. It was determined that both thermal conductivity and diffusivity were at their maximum at 313 K, which is in the range of the glass transition temperature....

Low Thermal Conductivity Coatings for Gas Turbine Applications

Thermal barrier coatings (TBC) are plasma sprayed onto gas turbine parts in order to improve combustion efficiency and component life time. Two TBC are looked at in this report: yttria partially stabilized zirconia (YPSZ) and dysprosia partially stabilized zirconia (DyPSZ). Both the TPS and laser flash techniques were used to measure the thermal conductivity of the coatings and the results were compared. In addition the effect of barrier microstructure on ...

Thermal conductivity of the ceramic Cecorite 130P between 88 and 280 K measured using the transient plane source technique

The ceramic Cecorite 130P was analyzed using the transient plane source (TPS) technique in order to measure the thermal conductivity in the range from 88 to 280 K. Fused quartz samples were also investigated in order to ensure the technique worked at liquid nitrogen temperatures. The thermal conductivity of Cecorite 130P was determined to have a slight dependence on temperature, with a maximum around 170 K....

Transient thermal conductivity measurements: comparison of destructive and nondestructive techniques

The author compares some currently existing method of measuring thermal conductivity and elaborates on a couple of newer methods. The pre-existing methods include hot wire and laser flash diffusivity, and the newly introduced methods are the modified how wire (MHW) and transient plane source (TPS) techniques. The necessary conditions (samples sizes, sample composition, test times, etc) are explained for the two newly introduced techniques. Experimental runs are carried out using ...

Measurement and model on thermal conductivities of carbon nanotube nanorefrigerants

The authors prepared a series of carbon nanotube (CNT) nanorefrigerants with varying size and amount of nanotubes to determine how these properties affect thermal conductivity. A TPS Instrument was used to measure thermal conductivity of the nanorefrigerants; R113 was used as a host nanorefrigerant. It was determined that higher concentrations of smaller diameter CNTs results in higher nanofrigerant thermal conductivity. A few theoretical models were also used to compare to ...
