Increased Thermal Conductivity of Eicosane-Based Composite Phase Change Materials in the Presence of Graphene Nanoplatelets

The addition of graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) to a paraffin-based solvent, eicosane was performed at various wt.% and subsequently the synthesized GNP/eicosane composites were analyzed by a variety of machines. The characterization of the GNP/eicosane composites was performed by the TPS technique for the measurement of thermal conductivity from 10°C to 35°C. At a wt.% of 10 GNP filler the composite had a thermal conductivity four times that of unfilled ...

Evaluation of thermal and moisture management properties on knitted fabrics and comparison with a physiological model in warm conditions

Through the use of thermal conductivity and moisture related measurements, this article investigates the physical properties of undergarments of different compositions (cotton, polyester, rayon, viscose, etc.). This research is used to determine which types of materials would best be suited for use in sports/day-to-day/comfortable clothes. Important properties measured include the porosity of the material as that affects the ability for moisture to be released, as well as the ...

Measurement of the thermal diffusivity and specific heat capacity of polyethylene foams using the transient plane source technique

The authors obtained a collection of crosslinked closed cell polyethlyene foams from a commercial supplier and then characterized the thermal properties of these foams. The characterization involved the use of the TPS technique to measure thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity and specific heat capacity. It was found that increasing density resulted in a decreased thermal diffusivity and an increased specific heat capacity per unit volume. A theoretical model was developed to ...

Heat transfer through glassfiber fabrics coated with silicone resin

In the building and construction industry today, weather resistant and flame resistant materials have become fundamental. As such, silicone coated materials have been intensively researched, as they increase a given materials resistivity to heat and flames. Due to complications and time constraints when testing coating technologies in a lab setting, more enforcement has been placed on numerical methods. Based on stitching patterns, geometry models of the material and heat transfer ...
