Recordings on thin samples with the thermal constants analyzer

Thermal Constants Analysers are designed to test three-dimensional samples with sizes at least as large as the sensor itself. However, this study examines the possibility of using methods to test the thermal conductivity of thin solid samples when they are thermally insulated. To accomplish this, the 200 data points that are collected by TPS methods should be collected while the sample is heated for only 5 seconds, which is a shorter amount ...

Thermal Properties of a Hercynian Granitic Rock: Data from a Deep Borehole (Almeida, Central Portugal)

Thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity and specific heat are investigated for a granite rock sample from a deep borehole in central Portugal. Thirty-three samples were divided into two groups based on the degree of metasomatic alteration. It was found that the average thermal conductivity for the samples in the group comprising the less altered samples was 2.90 ± 0.26 W/m K, and for the more altered samples, the average value was 2.95 ± 0.19 W/m ...

Thermal conductivity and dynamic mechanical property of glycidyl methacrylate-grafted multiwalled carbon nanotube/epoxy composites

The purpose of this this study was to graft polymer chains onto the surface of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to examine the morphology and thermal properties of the epoxy composites in comparison to multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). A thermal analyzer measured the thermal conductivity of the nanocomposites using the transient plane source (TPS) technique. Results showed that the addition of Glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) to the MWCNTs/epoxy composites significantly enhanced thermal ...

Temperature-dependent thermal conductivity of eicosane-based phase change materials with copper oxide nanoparticles

In this study, pure eicosane and eicosane-CuO solid composites were prepared using ambient and ice-water bath solidification methods. A Thermal Constants Analyzer measured the thermal conductivity of the samples using the transient plane source (TPS) technique. Results showed that for both solidification methods, composite thermal conductivity was independent of temperature up to a point, and the composites with the highest nanoparticle concentrations had the highest thermal conductivity. Although the composites ...
