Enhanced thermal conductivity of n octadecane containing carbon based nanomaterials

This paper focused on determining the thermal conductivity of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and carbon nanofibers (CNFs) that were dispersed throughout n-octadecane as phase change materials (PCMs). The Thermal Constants Analyzer TPS measured the thermal conductivity of the n-octadecane samples at solid and liquid phases using the transient plane source (TPS) method. Results showed that the thermal conductivity of the solid phase n¬-octadecane/MWCNTs samples increased with nanotube concentration. ...

Experimental investigation of thermal conduction in copper palladium nanofluids

With the increasing popularity of nanofluids (NFs), understanding their thermal properties is critical. In this paper, a thermal constant analyzer measured the thermal conductivity of copper/palladium bimetallic nanostructure-based nanofluids using the transient plane source (TPS) method. Results showed that the addition of the nanoparticles enhanced the thermal conductivity of the nanofluids by approximately 19%....

Preparation and thermal property of ionic liquid based on ZnCl2/ChCl

Phase change materials (PCMs) are becoming increasingly important in the field of thermal energy storage. Ionic liquids (ILs) are a group of novelty salts that are liquid below temperatures of 100 °C. To learn more about ILs based on ZnCl2/ChCl and their uses as PCMs, a Thermal Constants Analyzer measured the thermal conductivities of ionic liquids at 25 °C using the transient plane source (TPS) technique. Results indicated that thermal conductivity ...

Thermophysical properties of launch complex 17 of the Cape Canaveral concrete

It is important to understand the thermophysical properties of concrete when it is quickly heated, such as at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. In this experiment, the transient plane source (TPS) method measured the thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, and specific heat of four concrete samples taken from the Launch Complex 17 at Cape Canaveral. The samples were measured from room temperature up to 300 °C over intervals of 50 °C. Results showed ...

Detection of damage in the equine hoof

Easy, non-invasive, and cost-effective methods to detect damage in horse hooves have yet to be produced. MRI- or CT-scans are typically used if injury is presumed, however they are expensive and impractical when examining the hoof of a live horse. This study tested if the Transient Plane Source (TPS) method can detect inconsistencies in hooves by measuring thermal conductivity. Results showed that the thermal conductivity measurements are reproducible, and inconsistencies ...
