Thermoelectric properties of Ba8Ga16Ge30 with TiO2 nanoinclusions

This article studied the effect of the addition of TiO2 nanoinclusions on bulk Ba8Ga16Ge30clathrate. Both thermal conductivity and electrical resistivity were investigated. Results produced by the TPS system revealed that thermal conductivity decreased as the amount of nanoinclusions increased. The authors concluded that a shift in the peak value of the Seebeck coefficient had occurred. Electrical resistivity increased with the addition....

Composition Control and Thermoelectric Properties of Quaternary Chalcogenide Nanocrystals: The Case of Stannite Cu2CdSnSe4

The authors present a method of producing Cu2CdSnSe4 quaternary nanocrystals using a colloidal synthesis route that could be used for future industrial synthesis. The nanocrystals prepared showed great potential for use as a thermoelectric material due to their high thermoelectric figure of merit (up to 0.71) resulting from a high electrical conductivity and low thermal conductivity. The authors believed that these properties could be further tuned in order to increase ...

Enhanced thermoelectric properties of Mg2Si by addition of TiO2 nanoparticles

Nano-inclusions are thermally conductive particles that improve the thermal conductivity of liquid mediums. In this paper, the thermal properties of Mg2Si were evaluated after the addition of TiO2 nanoparticles. An instrument measured the thermal conductivity of the nanofluid using the transient plane source (TPS) method. Results showed that the thermal conductivity of the nanofluid was the highest at lower temperatures, and did not improve with the addition of the ...

The Effect of Cu2O Nanoparticle Dispersion on the Thermoelectric Properties of n-type Skutterudites

This article studies the effect of dispersion of Cu2O nanoparticles on the thermoelectric properties of Ba0.4Co4Sb12 and Sn0.4Ba0.4Co4Sb12 skutterudites. It was found that the dispersion of these nanoparticles resulted in an increased thermoelectric efficiency due to decreased electrical resistivity and thermal conductivity. The figure of merit for Cu2O dispersed Ba0.4Co4Sb12 reached a maximum value of 0.92 at 573 K. This value represents a ...

Thermal conductivity and electrical resistivity of the Y- and Er-substituted 1:2:3 superconducting compounds in the vicinity of the transition temperature

A series of Er and Y sintered compounds were prepared and were subsequently tested for their thermal conductivity and electrical resistivity. The transient plane source (TPS) technique was used for the thermal conductivity measurement. These compounds were designed for use as superconductors and the authors wanted to study the electron-phonon interaction near the vicinity of Tc....
