Long-term supercooled thermal energy storage (thermophysical properties of disodium hydrogenphosphate 12H2O)

This paper examined the thermophysical properties of hydrate using disodium hydrogenphosphate 12H2O to develop a long-term latent heat storage (LTLHS) using supercooling. The thermal conductivities of solid and liquid disodium hydrogenphosphate 12H2O were measured using the transient plane source (TPS) technique. Results showed that the thermal conductivity of liquid disodium hydrogenphosphate 12H2O increased slightly with temperature, whereas the solid phase showed a minor downward trend. Also, thermal ...

Determining thermal physical properties of pyrolyzing New Zealand medium density fibreboard (MDF)

Understanding the pyrolysis model for medium density fibreboard (MDF) is important for infrastructure fire safety. The purpose of this study was to determine the thermophysical properties of charred and uncharred MDF. The thermal conductivity of these inhomogeneous fibreboards was measured using a Thermal Constants Analyser in conjunction with the transient plane source (TPS) technique. Results showed that the experimental results were in good agreement with literature values, and specifically, the ...

Measurement and modeling of the effective thermal conductivity for porous methane hydrate samples

Gas hydrates have potential to be used as future energy sources, so it is important to understand their thermal properties. This paper aims to examine the effective thermal conductivity of synthetic porous methane hydrate samples. A Thermal Constants Analyser measured the thermal conductivity of the methane hydrate samples using the single-sided transient plane source (TPS) method. Results showed an inverse relationship between porosity and thermal conductivity. Unfortunately, mechanical pressure can ...

Highly mesoporous organic aerogels derived from soy and tannin

The first soy and tannin based organic aerogels with 91% naturality have been developed by researchers, and they have low bulk density but high volumes of mesopores. In this experiment, the transient plane source (TPS) method was used to measure the thermal characteristics of the organic aerogels. Results showed that these novelty aerogels are ecologically friendly because they are low cost and renewable but have attractive thermal properties....

Thermal Conductivity of Cellular Metals Measured by the Transient Plane Source (TPS) Method

Through the use of the transient plane source method the researchers were able to measure the thermal conductivity of a collection of cellular metals as well as the in- homogeneities of the samples. The volume of the samples was varied and the density of these individual volumes was calculated from tomography....
