Effective thermal conductivity of three-phase styrene butadiene composites

The thermal conductivity and diffusivity of a series of three-phase styrene butadiene composites were investigated using the transient plane source (TPS) technique. Both of the series contained a variable amount of natural rubber, as well as variable amounts of silica and clay. The thermal properties decreased sharply at 10 phr filling, but increased subsequently after that. It was determined that silica resulted in better (higher) thermal properties as compared to clay....

Effect of treatment on the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of oil-palm-fiber-reinforced phenolformaldehyde composites

Oil-palm fiber reinforced phenolformaldehyde composites were prepared and then tested for their thermal properties. Thermal conductivity and diffusivity were measured using the transient plane source (TPS) technique. The composites were then treated using different methods (alkali, silane and acetic acid treatments) and the thermal conductivity and diffusivity were measured again to see how the treatment affected the thermal properties of the composite. It was found that thermal conductivity increased varying ...

Thermal properties of pineapple leaf fiber reinforced composites

Varying weight percentages of pineapple leaf fiber were added to phenolformaldehyde (PF) in order to generate a composite material. Using the transient plane source (TPS) technique, the thermal conductivities of the varying weight percentage composites were studied. It was found that increasing weight % pineapple leaf fiber resulted in decreasing thermal conductivity and diffusivity of the composites. The experimental results are compared to results produced by two models (the Rayleigh-Maxwell and ...

Measurement of Thermal Transport Properties with an Improved Transient Plane Source Technique

A modification was made to the transient plane source (TPS) technique for the measurement of thermal transport properties at low temperatures (as low as 80 K). This altered TPS technique was then used to measure the properties of known samples in the form of fused silica, carbon steel and halide crystals. Data were obtained from room temperature down to 80 K. The newly modified method gave experimental results that agreed well with ...
