Influence of moisture content on measurement accuracy of porous media thermal conductivity

This article investigated the accuracy of measuring the thermal conductivity of sand with various moisture contents. Water morphologies, distribution and evolution at the pore scale were determined. Results found that sand with a moisture content lower than 25% was difficult to measure with the system. Water evaporation and diffusion prevented an accurate measurement from being collected. However, at high moisture contents the system gave excellent results....

Macroscopic foam model with effective material properties for high heat load applications

This study used macroscopic equations to determine fluid dynamics and heat transport properties in metallic slip-reaction (SR)-foams for their application in gas turbines. The numerical results were validated by an experimental method that analyzed the physical and mechanical properties of the SR-foams. An apparatus measured the effective thermal conductivity of the foam samples using the transient plane source (TPS) method. Results showed that the foams had low thermal conductivities ...

Measurement and modeling of the effective thermal conductivity for porous methane hydrate samples

Gas hydrates have potential to be used as future energy sources, so it is important to understand their thermal properties. This paper aims to examine the effective thermal conductivity of synthetic porous methane hydrate samples. A Thermal Constants Analyser measured the thermal conductivity of the methane hydrate samples using the single-sided transient plane source (TPS) method. Results showed an inverse relationship between porosity and thermal conductivity. Unfortunately, mechanical pressure can ...
