Fabrication of porous silica ceramics by gelation-freezing of diatomite slurry

Using a gelation-freezing method, diatomite-derived porous silica ceramics with high porosities up to 90% were fabricated. Diatomite particles contain large numbers of meso- and micropores, intrinsically reducing the thermal conductivity. In this study, thermal conductivity of the sintered specimens was measured.
